Greg “Fossilman” Raymer continues to find tournament success. The 2004 World Champion made the final table of Event #14 ($1500 7-Card Stud) where he finished in 6th place.
While most of the recent world champions are known strictly as Hold Em players Raymer prides himself on being able to play all variations of poker. Raymer was barely in contention after the conclusion of the first day of play with only 8000 in chips. He would however find success on Day Two as he cruised to the final table with 116,500 in chips.
Not surprisingly the final table was stacked with talented players including Larry Eubanks, John Robertson, Dale Phillips, Barry Greenstein, Steve Sung, Nesbitt Corburn and winner Michael Keiner. Raymer was eliminated by Greenstein.
The event drew 395 players for a total prizepool of $539,175 and Raymer took home $19,680.

The Rio isn’t the only place to find the world’s top poker players this summer. The Bellagio Cup III features some of the toughest fields in poker.
David Williams outlasted 62 other top professional players in the $5000 buy-in event to win $129,120 plus a $25,000 buy-in to the WPT Championship at the Bellagio next Spring. The win came only days after his 31st place finish in the $2500 HORSE event at the 2007 World Series of Poker.
Williams outmaneuvered a tough final table that included former WPT champion Roland de Wolfe and WSOP bracelet winners John Gale and Ted Lawson. The heads-up battle between between Williams and David Dicken lasted less than 30 minutes as Williams’ aggressive play secured the victory.
Also at the final table were Wayne Boich, Robert Zoellner, Steven Miller and Mikael Thuritz.

Erick Lindgren cruised through the first two rounds of the $1500 Shootout Event at the 2007 World Series of Poker only to find himself unlucky at the final table. With over $5.7 Million in career winnings Lindgren is still searching for his first WSOP bracelet.
Lindgren, a member of Team Full Tilt, was never able to accumulate chips at the final table and was the second player eliminated. The 8th place finish earned the former high school athlete $12,899. It was his second cash at the WSOP after finishing 109th in Event #3 ($1500 No Limit Hold Em).
The final table included Daniel Negreanu, Jared Davis, Thomas Fuller, Michael Wehner, Brendan Lee, Doug Baughman, Fred Goldberg and eventual winner Don Baruch.

Daniel Negreanu’s career as a member of Team PokerStars got off to a great start at the 2007 World Series of Poker. Only two days after announcing that he was now representing the online poker room Negreanu made the final table of Event #21 ($1500 NL Hold Em Shootout).
The shootout format forces players to defeat a full table each round to advance. Negreanu had no trouble advancing through his first two tables and when the final table began the three-time bracelet winner was in position to win his fourth. Despite earning an early chip lead Negreanu ran into a cold deck and finished in 3rd place earning himself $101,351.
The final table included Erick Lindgren, Jared Davis, Thomas Fuller, Michael Wehner, Brendan Lee, Doug Baughman, Fred Goldberg and eventual winner Don Baruch.

Only days after making one final table at the 2007 World Series of Poker Greg ‘Fossilman’ Raymer repeated the feat one and found himself at the final table of Event #20 ($2000 7-Card Stud Hi-Lo).
There were 340 runners in the event and Raymer, the 2004 World Champion, again showed his prowess at games other than Texas Hold Em by beating all but three players on his way to a 4th place finish. For surviving the three days of play Raymer pocketed $41,460.
The final table included Adam Spiegelberg, Ron Ware, Jim Weir, Steve Graboski, Doug Carli, Min Lee and bracelet winner Ryan Hughes. Raymer has now made five WSOP final tables in his career.

Many people consider Phil Hellmuth to be the best No Limit Hold Em tournament player in the world. After capturing his record-breaking 11th World Series of Poker bracelet at Event #15 it’s hard to argue with that contention.
A total of 2,628 players sat down at the start of the tournament, making it the second largest non-Main Event tournament ever, but by the time all was said and done Hellmuth had amassed all of the chips and $637,254 for first place.
All of Hellmuth’s bracelets come in Hold Em including the 1989 World Series Main Event. Hellmuth becomes the first player with 11 breaking a three-way tie with fellow poker legends Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan.
Hellmuth was in danger early in the tournament but fought through the adversity of being short-stacked to get to the final table with 1,482,000 in chips which put him in second place. Once the final table began Hellmuth was able to outlast Taylor Douglas, Ut Nguyen, Fabrice Soulier, David Simon, Scott Clements, Morgan Manchina, Rick Fuller and runner-up Andy Philacheck.

Gavin Smith started the 2007 World Series of Poker off with a bang finishing 2nd in Event #4 ($1500 Pot Limit Hold Em). After working his way through a field of 781 players over three days Smith, a member of Team Full Tilt, takes home $155,645 for his efforts.
In contention from the minute the cards were in the air Smith finished the first day sitting 10th in chips with 65,000. With the field narrowed Smith made Day Two his personal playground as he worked his way up to 480,000 in chips at the end of the day, good enough for the chip lead heading into the final table.
Also at the final table were Marco Traniello, Jeff Langdon, Eric Lynch, Bruce Van Horn, Thomas Savitsky, William Hill, Jon Friedberg and the eventual winner Michael Spiegal. The event will be broadcast by ESPN later this summer.
