A former real estate developer, an NBA basketball team owner, and poker player, Jerry was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and raised near Kemmerer, Wyoming. It was in his childhood when Jerry Buss learned to play poker at an early age from his mother. Jerry Buss went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from the University of Wyoming and, at age 24, completed his PhD in chemistry at the University of Southern California, teaching at USC before going into real estate.

Dr. Buss is most widely known for being the owner of the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association. Jerry Buss purchased the team, along with the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League, The Forum, and a large ranch, from Jack Kent Cooke in 1979 for a price tag of $67.5 million, which made the deal the largest transaction in sports history at that time. The Lakers have been very successful under Jerry Buss' ownership, winning eight NBA championships with such players as Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, James Worthy, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Jerry Buss took charge of the operations of the Los Angeles Sparks upon formation of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) in 1997. The Sparks have also experienced their share of success with Buss at the controls, having won two WNBA championships and featuring one of the league's marquee players in Lisa Leslie.

Jerry Buss is currently appearing on the Game Show Network (GSN) series High Stakes Poker. In addition, Jerry recently competed in the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship, which was an invitation-only poker event that brought together 64 of the world's best players competing in a unique one-on-one, single-elimination, bracket-style format. Jerry Buss signed a sponsorship agreement to promote the popular online poker site Bodog.net for the NBC event. As part of the deal, Jerry Buss will also do personal appearances on behalf of Bodog.net with the likes of other professional poker players David Williams and Josh Arieh.
